Learners Impress at Pumpkin Classic

Seven Summits Learners were involved in debate action on Saturday as they took on students from across the region in the 28th Annual Pumpkin Classic debate tournament at J.L. Crowe Secondary School in Trail.

Speakers traveled from as far away as Kelowna to participate in the event. The competition was fierce, and judges remarked on the high standard of speaking from all teams.

2nd overall in the novice category, debating the resolution ‘Books are better than movies’, were the dynamic Rossland Summit School / Seven Summits Centre for Learning duo Brian Chan and Scarlet Guy, pictured below.

Representing our centre in the senior category were debaters Aven Cosby and Bronwyn Moore, who argued the pros and cons of the resolution ‘Canada has a duty to vastly expand the number of refugees it will allow to immigrate’. The team finished 4th overall.

Congratulations to our awesome debaters, and many thanks to debate coaches Aaron Cosbey and Rachel Aiken!
