ANNUAL CAMPING TRIP:

The start of each academic year provides a springboard to establish new friendships, renew existing ones and consolidate our learning family. Join us on an amazing three-day annual camping retreat to Whatshan Lake full of laughter, games, bonding and the development of team and leadership skills.  It sets the bar for what is to come – a dynamic education rich in ACTION, exciting field trips and stimulating excursions as well as science labs, art and drama workshops.  See the picture gallery at the bottom of this page for our 2019 camp!  (All Grades)  We had to make some changes for this year's camp, but as you can see from THIS VIDEO HERE it was still a blast! 

Social Studies Trip:

Explore the West Kootenay and get ‘hands on’ with learning to make history come to life. Ditch the classroom and get on the road to assimilate a range of historical, cultural, mining and transportation facts. (Grade 10)

Bi Annual Biology Field Trip:

See different ecosystems up close and personal from the desert to the rainforest and marine life.  Learn from professionals as well as each other in student led presentations.  Travel from the Okanagon Valley over Mountain passes to the coast (Grades 11 & 12.  Every two years)

DESERT ECOLOGY AND OUTDOOR ROCK-CLIMBING TRIP:

Explore Frenchman Coulee, a rock-climbing nirvana in Washington, on our annual three-day trip which provides an incredible experience. This mighty gorge will make a lasting impression with its jaw-dropping cliff faces, crags, waterfalls, basalt columns, rock formations and vistas. (Grades 8 & 9)

UNLEASH YOUR INNER DIVA AT VERNON SHAKESFEST:

Join hundreds of teachers and students at this drama festival for three days of workshops, performances and social activities. Learn about drama, improvisation and movement which culminates in a gala showcase. (All Grades)

UNIVERSITY CAMPUS TOURS:

Visit a range of campuses that align with your needs and ambitions, speak to faculty staff as well as current students to ensure your next decision is a fully informed one. (Grades 11/12)

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

An outdoor education program at 7S takes place within our mountain playground and maximizes the resources on our doorstep. PE on our timetable takes place on the court, on the mountain, on the ice, in the field, and on the climbing wall. On rainy days, onsite foosball and air hockey are balanced with yoga and the child's pose to promote the benefits of mindfulness. You will also get to go snowshoeing, climbing, ice skating, and learn tennis and curling skills, to name just a few of the activities (All Grades)

AVALANCHE TRAINING SKILLS:

Sign up to FREE avalanche training delivered by KOOTENAY AVALANCHE COURSES, our training specialists, and become AST1 Certified. Learn about safe backcountry travel techniques, route finding, slope assessment and companion rescue in our learning centre and in the beautiful BIG RED CATS cat-skiing tenure. (Grades 10/11/12)  

DEBATING TEAM:

Developing the ability to argue with a point and not a person is as essential life skill when settling verbal conflict! Get the chance to compete on a local, provincial, national and international scale by joining our debating team. Community mentors will help you gain insight into both sides of an argument, eloquently express views and succinctly communicate to your audience individually and in a team. (All Grades)

ART/DRAMA WORKSHOPS, AND MUSIC LESSONS:

Explore your artistic, creative and musical flair from graffiti and painting to screen printing, drawing and creating 3D nature art. Take guitar lessons, or demonstrate speech and drama techniques learned in drama workshops in front of an audience. We also collaborate with the Charles Bailey Theatre to provide experience onstage as well as behind the scenes, and put on multi-grade drama productions. (All Grades)

CODING AND 3D LASER CUTTING AND PRINTING:

These are explored in a variety of local MIDAS LAB workshops. 

ROPE PROJECT:

With the help of a community mentor, choose a project you have a passion for as part of your Rite of Passage experience (ROPE Project). Over the course of the year, unleash your creativity, artistic flair and musical talents by learning a new instrument, welding, ironwork, clothing design, beekeeping, art technique, photography, sewing, singing, hairdressing, pottery, woodworking, acting, dance and more! Students have also sought more unusual experiences from ‘drag’ make-up skills to tanning a hide and learning magic. (Grades 8/9)
