Free AST1 Training for 7S Students
Teaching Real Life Skills
Every year, our high school students learn how to stay safe in the backcountry, for free, thanks to Keith Robine from Kootenay Avalanche Courses and the generous folks from Big Red Cats. who enable them to practice what they've learnt in their tenure.
Hands-On Learning in the biggest classroom of all!
Incorporating a mix of classroom work and field studies, participating students receive their AST1 certification after a two day programme which gives them hands on experience using beacons. measuring risk, undertaking companion rescue and snowpack testing.
It's always great fun and, living in a mountain town, it's also a must for those who love the outdoors and want to explore what's on their doorstep.
